The funny church sign I had to photograph

The slogan for this First United Pentecostal Church cracks me up.

Is that slogan an affirmation or a warning?

Certainly the “Hard To Forget” was well-intentioned.

But consider the possible meanings, as found on the “What We Believe” page of the United Pentecostal Church International website.

“Full salvation,” the website says, includes “the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.”

Furthermore, “The supernatural gifts of the Spirit, including healing, are for the church today.”

Other tongues. Supernatural gifts. Any meeting could indeed be “Hard To Forget”!

  1. I do not concern myself with their interest in Pentecostal gifts as much as their insistence that they be required for Christian salvation. They wholeheartedly deny the doctrine of the Trinity, further distancing them from Christian truth. There is also the matter of what they call “the standards”, requiring women and girls to wear only floor length skirts or dresses, they also do not allow makeup or the cutting of womens’ hair. Put all these things together and you have a theological and sociological cult
