could you hear me laugh at your place from where I'm sitting?

In the beginning (of my tenure) was the long sermon, and the long sermon was with Rob, and the long sermon was Rob. He was with Rob in the beginning.

The long sermon took on flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen its length, the length of the one and only long sermon that comes from Rob, full of notes and Calvin references. And from its lengthiness we have all received calloused rear ends because of our exceedingly hard pews.

Do buddhists even have a problem with adultery? Glad to see other religions screwing up besides christians who are the only ones accused of being hypocritical normally.
His wife should leave as soon as the kids can handle it. Forget the money. He made her look really bad and no one should put up with that.

Seeing Colin's post has roused me to defend myself. And in crafting my argument, I think "what would be most useful in persuading Colin away from the 15 min sermon?" Louis Giglio....no. Jerry Falwell....no. Hmmm. John Calvin...probably not. Martin Luther? Maybe. But...an early church father yes! That is an easy win indeed. That will surely win Colin over to long sermons. Picking up any one of the sermons of an early church father should keep you busy for about 45 minutes, which makes me think the actual delivery was round about one hour. So, if we're going to be "catholic" Christians lets really go for it! Preach for an hour!!! Whoa hoo!!!!

Colin - If Mary was not of sin at the time of His conception, then how could JC have obtained his humanity? Anslem's doctrine of substitutionary atonment is premised on the understanding that Mary was fully human and was of sin:

"For, granted that the actual conception of this man was untainted and devoid of the sin of carnal pleasure, the Virgin from whom he was taked was conceived 'amid inquity' and her mother 'conceived' her 'in sin' [Ps 51:5] and she was born with original sin since she sinned in Adam, 'in whom all have sinned' [Rom 5:12]" - Anselm, Why God Became Man, Ch. 16.

Further, JC was "conceived" by the joining of God (through his Holy Spirit) and Man (though Mary) But if Mary was not of sin, then how could Christ have assumed (and conquered) this sinful nature. If that which has not been assumed, has not been redeemed, (Gregory of Nazianzus), then the immaculate concemption prevents the redemption of our sinful nature.

I think it would be "The Levee's Gonna Break"

If it keep on raining, the levee's gonna break
If it keep on raining, the levee's gonna break
Some of these people gonna strip you of all they can take

I can't stop here I ain't ready to unload
I can't stop here I ain't ready to unload
Riches and salvation can be waiting behind the next bend in the road

I picked you up from the gutter and this is the thanks I get
I picked you up from the gutter and this is the thanks I get
You say you want me to quit you, I told you, 'No, not just yet.'

Well, I look in your eyes, I see nobody other than me
I look in your eyes, I see nobody other than me
I see all that I am and all I hope to be

Yep, we Christians are a monolithic group, and we all consider people only in light of their moral failings, not in terms of their natural talents and the character they demonstrate through their hard work. The above opinion obviously wasn't voted on by Christians; someone stepped out of line back in March 2008 when this post first slipped out. The writer will be immediately ushered back to the Group Think session. Beyond that aberration, I guess you've nailed us.
