Ten Commandments v. Big Mac ingredients, or Brady Bunch kids

From a press release:

While a recent survey conducted by Kelton Research showed respondents know more Big Mac® ingredients than Ten Commandments, taken on the whole the statistics are even more revealing: out of the 1,000 respondents, almost two in five (35%) can recall all six Brady kids, a quarter (25%) could name all seven ingredients of the Big Mac, but only just over one in ten (14%) can accurately list all Ten Commandments.

With public knowledge of the Ten Commandments at an all-time low, Academy Award™-nominated actor Elliott Gould, the voice of God in the upcoming animated film, “The Ten Commandments,” agrees with producers of the film that something needs to be done.  The film’s opening ties into a recent statistical survey commissioned by The Ten Commandment Commission. Produced and distributed by  Promenade Pictures, the movie opens in theatres nationwide on Oct. 19 and in conjunction with an online campaign to heighten awareness of these foundational societal principles.

A telephone press conference call last week featured Gould, along with film’s producer Cindy Bond, writer Ed Naha, Christian artist and songwriter Jeremy Camp and was moderated by The Ten Commandments Commission President, Dr. Ronald Wexler.  Featuring media questions, the call gave participants an opportunity to discuss their reasons for being part of the making of “The Ten Commandments” film and its relevance today.

“Well, I’m a father and a grandfather, and I’m older now and recognize my own mortality.  I have acquired some degree of perspective and focus in my existence and I believe it’s so significant,” Gould said.  “I am concerned like most of us, about the situation in the Middle East and different perspectives, and I would hope that to renew, restore and strengthen our resolve in relation to ethics and morals can help to pave the way to make for peace and harmony in the world amongst all of us.”

The film’s opening ties into a recent statistical survey commissioned by The Ten Commandment Commission that revealed that respondents were more familiar with the ingredients of a McDonald’s® hamburger than they were with the historical basis for our nation’s legal and moral code.  “This film and the survey results reflect what’s wrong in society today,” said Dr. Wexler.

“It is very disconcerting that more people know the contents of a Big Mac® than know the contents of our moral standards,” said Cindy Bond, the film’s producer.  “I came to Hollywood because, as a mother and a person with Christian values, I wanted to use the most powerful medium in the world to be a seed planter.  The Ten Commandments are the backbone of our society. They are God’s missive to mankind and God’s blueprint for how we are to live our lives.”

In connection with the film, individuals can visit www.10commandmentschallenge.org to test their own knowledge and find resources to help educate themselves, their families or groups.

Additionally, Dr. Wexler explained that his organization has assisted in the introduction of U.S. House Resolution 598 that will name the weekend of May 2-4, 2008 as “Ten Commandments” weekend across the nation.

Christian music artist and songwriter Jeremy Camp wrote the original song that accompanies the film.  “I wanted to write a song about God’s worthiness and my unworthiness,” he said.   “I tried to compare myself to how Moses felt as a reluctant prophet, a man who was trying to work himself out of a job.”

Promenade Pictures sees this as a critical time to release “The Ten Commandants,” which features the voice talent of Academy Award™ winner Ben Kingsley as narrator, Christian Slater (Moses), Alfred Molina (Ramses) and Academy Award™ nominee Elliott Gould (voice of God).
